How do I setup a price alert?

To set up a price alert for your MT4 desktop platform, please follow the instructions and corresponding images below:

1. At the bottom of the platform, click on ‘Alerts’
2. Right-click anywhere on the blank space in this section

3. Click ‘Create’ to add a new price alert

Alert Editor options are explained in detail below:

1. Enable On/Offallows you to enable/disable the alert. The alert will not be deleted when disabled.
2. Action - allows you to configure an action when an alert is triggered. These include:

  • Sound - playing a sound file
  • File - running an executable file
  • Emailsending an email to an email address previously specified in your terminal settings
  • Notificationsending a push notification to a mobile device. Sending push notifications requires specification of the MetaQuotes ID in the terminal settings.

3. Expirationenables you to set a time limit for your price alert, after which the alert will be automatically deleted.
4. Symbol - specify the instrument symbol name for the alert.
5. Condition - determines the trigger criteria for the alert:
  •  
  • • Bid> – the bid price is higher than the specified value. If the bid price exceeds the given value, the alert will trigger.
  • • Bid< – the bid price is lower than the specified value. If the bid price goes under the given value, the alert will trigger.
  •  Ask> – the ask price is higher than the specified value. If the ask price exceeds the given value, the alert will trigger.
  •  Ask< – the ask price is lower than the specified value. If the ask price goes under the given value, the alert will trigger.
  •  Time= – time is equal to the given value. The alert will trigger after the amount of time specified.
  •  
6. Value - allows you to specify the trigger criteria value of the condition, such as the trigger price for an alert.
7. Source - depending on the type of action performed when your alert is triggered, one of the following is specified here:
  •  
  • • A sound file in *.wav, *.mp3 or *.wma
  • • An executable file in the *.exe, *.vbs or *.bat format
  • • Push message text. The maximum message length is 255 characters.
  •  
8. Timeout - allows you to set a break period between alerts, new triggers will not generate alerts within this timeframe.
9. Maximum iterations - allows you to specify the maximum amount of times an alert will repeat triggering.
10. Click ‘OK’ to add the alert

To set up a price alert for your OANDA fxTrade iPhone app, follow the instructions and corresponding images below.

1. At the bottom of the application, press 'More'
2. Press 'Price Signals' 
3. Press 'Price'
4. Choose your desired instrument for your price alert
5. Enter the desired average price level for the price alert to trigger (average price is the mid-point price between the bid and ask price)
6. Choose the length of time to keep your alert active
7. Press 'Submit' to add the price alert

To setup an alert based on the simple moving average (SMA), follow the instructions and corresponding image below.

1. At the bottom of the application, press 'More' 
2. Press 'Price Signals'
3. Press 'SMA' 
4. Choose your desired instrument for the price alert
5. Enter your desired average price level for the price alert to trigger (average price is the mid-point price between the bid and ask price where orders are actually executed)
6. Choose the desired timeframe for the moving average
7. Press 'Submit' to add the price alert

To set up a price alert for your OANDA Trade Android app, follow the instructions and corresponding images below.

1. At the bottom of the application, press 'More'
2. Press 'Price Signals'
3. Press 'Price'
4. Choose your desired instrument for the price alert
5. Enter your desired average price(average price is the mid-point price between the bid and ask price where orders are actually executed) level for the price alert to trigger
6. Choose when your price alert would expire
7. Press 'Submit' to add the price alert

To set up an alert based on price, follow the instructions and corresponding numbered image below.

1. Press on the enlarge icon to work on a chart in full screen
2. Press ‘Drawing’
3. Press the 'Hline' button to draw a horizontal trendline

4. Press anywhere on the chart to draw a line
5. Adjust the line by pressing and holding the knob on the left-hand side to settle at a price level desired for your price alert

6. Press the signal icon to enable price alert when market price crosses your line
7. Press anywhere on the chart once you have finished the edits to complete the price alert set up
